The Wise Woman's Tarot A Multicultural, Matriarchal Deck and Book
Priestess of Wands
 |
Priestess of Wands - Image - Bast
Originated in the Nile Delta. She was a lion goddess of sunset symbolizing the fertilizing force of the sun's rays.
"Later her image grew tamer and became a cat carrying the sun or a cat-headed woman
who bore on her breastplate the lion of her former self." She ruled pleasure
and dancing, music and joy and bestowed both mental and physical health. She
sits here on a glowing throne decorated with solar images and lion heads. Two
black cats flank either side and pyramids and green rushes adorn the desert
background. In her left hand she carries the ankh, the Egyptian symbol of
life. She is the symbol of the fiery side of woman, the one who promotes
growth and healing through the element of fire and the power of the sun.
